Spotto started in a Weligama surf house with a simple gripe: the internet kept sending our friends to the wrong places.
The best of this island never made it online
Every visiting friend got the same treatment: a scribbled list of places, a warning about two tourist traps, and a kottu order to memorise. Their trips were better for it, every single time.
Big review platforms rank whoever collected the most reviews since 2011. We wanted the opposite: a small map, written by locals, kept honest because our neighbours' businesses live on it. So we built the scribbled list into an app.
Three things we won't budge on
Local first
Every spot is picked by someone who lives nearby. If locals stop rating it, it comes off the map.
Free for travellers
The traveller side never gets a paywall. If we ever have to choose, the map stays free.
The island wins together
Tourism money should reach the kottu shack, not just the resort strip. Spotto exists to spread it.
The surf house crew
Three of us, one whiteboard, an unreasonable number of short eats.

Grew up in Galle, knows every rampart shortcut. Owns the curation bar: if Kavindu wouldn't send a friend there, it's not going on the map.

Writes the code between dawn patrol and the afternoon glass-off. Built the first Spotto prototype in a weekend to settle an argument.
